Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Right!

Image result for rights and responsibility

Social media rights you say.  How dare anyone try to tell me what I can say on my personal page!  The point here is that people certainly do have the right to say what they want on social media (freedom of speech) but what people need to remember is that certain topics can cause distress to other users whether it is text, images or videos.

It is very common for certain individuals to be abusive online, the term keyboard gangster (tough guy huh!) is well used for those who feel the need to vent frustration.

Everyone has the right to feel safe and if you feel intimidated or threatened then the block setting is a great tool – Adios Amigos!

With internet access being so readily available nowadays, we can become very irresponsible on social media with alcohol one of the things affecting behaviour (breathalyser kit required before access) this isn’t an excuse to be abusive but it certainly changes brain function, although you’d think some never actually had a brain to begin with!

Important points to keep in mind are that individuals have the right to have social media accounts (ask parents if you’re underage) you have the right to know what kind of information businesses are collecting about you.  In my opinion, one of the most important rights is that you can leave social media anytime you want, to go and explore the real world (take a selfie for Facebook while you do it if you want mind you) 🤪 be responsible with what you share online as businesses or others could be collecting information about you.  Try to be very aware and responsible with what you read and believe as others are not always true to themselves.

Let’s end positively, make sure to be nice, treat others the way you want to be treated and most importantly, be yourself without showing your angry side.

  1. You appear to enjoy writing these blogs Kris. You always look like you are working hard in this class. Very good blog, if a bit short! 🙂 Good headline. Can you beef it up with a bit on a users basic rights and responsibilities. Always good humour in all your blogs. Well done.
